Rookie Probation Officer of the Year Award Winner: Michelle Murfin

On Thursday, September 5, 2024 at the Probation Officers Professional Association of Indiana (POPAI) annual fall conference, Michelle Murfin, of the Hamilton County Department of Probation Services, was awarded the “Rookie Probation Officer of the Year Award”.

This award was established in 2014 to recognize probation officers who, while at the beginning of their career, show the attitude, aptitude, and the desire to improve themselves and to develop into leaders among their peers.

Magistrate Valorie Hahn stated “From the first time she appeared in my Court, Michelle has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to serving the youth of Hamilton County. I have personally witnessed Michelle’s professionalism in the Courtroom in difficult situations. She fosters positive relationships with parents, youth and attorneys alike. It is a privilege to have Michelle as a probation officer in my Court.”

Kim Christman, Supervision Coordinator, stated “Michelle is a dedicated and hard-working employee who does not hesitate to assist co-workers and supervisors whenever called upon. She takes initiative and shows a strong work ethic and has been instrumental in taking on new duties regarding data collection within the department. She balances fairness and accountability and has a keen awareness of the impact of supervising youth.”
