EVANSVILLE - There were nearly 300 alcohol related deaths in Indiana last year. And now a Vanderburgh county mother who lost her son to a drunk driver says it's time for a change.

Almost nine months ago 21-year-old Adam Miley ran a stoplight and his pickup slammed into a car driven by 34-year-old Michael Barnett.

Barnett was pronounced dead at the scene.

Miley was intoxicated and charged with a DUI causing death.

The death of Marilyn Barnett's son sparked an effort to bring a Mothers Against Drunk Driving group to Vanderburgh county. Marilyn said she's hopes to bring more awareness about drinking and driving to younger people and also support other parents who have experienced the loss of a child.

So far the Vanderburgh chapter has twenty members but Marilyn is hoping for more participation after the first meeting.

The first meeting will be November 14th at 6:30 p.m. in the Central Library in downtown Evansville.
