POPAI Board Meeting Minutes for 03/13/2025

The meeting was called to order at 12:30pm

Secretary's Report

President Angela Morris asked if everyone had the opportunity to review the minutes from our February 2025 meeting.   A motion was made to accept the minutes and seconded.  All were in favor. Motion carried.

Treasurer's Report

Treasurer Andria Geigle provided the following balances:

  • Checking account balance is $40,475.12
  • Savings account is $68,370.39.
  • CD investment of $30,919.50.

Andria reported our total current assets are $139,765.01.

A motion was made to accept the Treasurer’s report and seconded.  All were in favor. Motion carried.

 

Technology

Karen described the reasoning behind searching for an additional free collaborative file sharing account.

Calendar highlights include:

  • Knepple Scholarship to be awarded at the Justice Services Conference in April

Membership

  • Karen is starting work on a one-page Membership promotional with the Membership Committee’s help
  • Payments from Sex Offender Assessment Certification, Management Institute, and Membership are administered by Lindsey, Shannon, and Karen together.
  • Karen described working with ChatGPT to clarify PayPal pricing and managing department invoices in coordination with memberships paid through Management Institute and Sex Offender Assessment Certification, both with varying success.
  • Anthony and Karen will work on an email inviting the Attorney General’s office to present at the Fall Conference.

Education

Shannon updated the Board on cancellation requests after the deadline.  The Board opted to hold to the Cancellation Policy that was put into place.

Shannon updated the Board on plans for the Fall Conference.

Shannon requested permission of the Board to purchase the Request for Proposals feature from Whova to utilize for the Fall Conference. Andria made a motion for Shannon to make the purchase.  The motion was seconded.  All were in favor. Motion carried.

Chief's Executive Committee

Greg reported the next Chief’s Executive Committee will take place at the Fall Conference in French Lick.

Probation Officer Advisory Board Update

Adam reported that the Advisory Board met on March 11th.  The Supervision Subcommittee presented their updated recommendations on the Intrastate Transfer rules.  The matter was tabled to the next meeting.

The Board continues to discuss the possibility of hold in-person meetings in the future.

District 1, District 2, District 5, District 13, District 15 and District 16 are up for election this year and will be announced at the Justice Services Conference next month.

The upcoming meetings for the Advisory Board are as follows: June 10, September 9, and December 9.

 

Election

Jenny Lampert reported to date there has been no formal interest expressed in the district 6 seat.   The Board will continue to promote the opening.

Awards and Recognition

Stephanie Cole reported the Committee has selected the Knepple Scholarship winner.  That individual will be announced at the Justice Services Conference next month.

Justice Reinvestment Advisory Council (JRAC)

Lindsey reported on the most recent JRAC meeting.

The next State JRAC meeting will take place on April 25, 2025.

The next EBDM/Local JRAC Workgroup will make place on April 11, 2025.

Legislation

Adam reported the Legislative session is still in session and he will continue to update the Board on activities.

Old Business

The Sex Offender assessment training is taking place at the Marion County Probation Department this week.  Lindsey reported that all open seats were filled.

Angela updated the Board on her meeting with IOCS to discuss the Salary Study conducted by POPAI.

The next meeting will take place on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at 10:30am in Johnson County and via Zoom.
