Administrative staff and files now line the hallway of the crowded Shelby County Probation Department in the top floor of the old Court House.
In some areas, two probation officers share a single office, making conversations with probationers awkward, especially when they are juveniles and confidentiality is a must.
But the department is on its way to new offices following the Shelby County Commissioners meeting Monday.
The commissioners said they will begin the process of demolishing two buildings the county owns at 24 and 26 W. Polk St., right across from the Court House Annex, to construct new office space for the probation department.
