Representative Foley was first elected to the Indiana House of Representatives in 1992 after serving as a Deputy Prosecutor in Morgan County. Since being in the House, Representative Foley as Chaired with Judiciary Committee, Courts and Criminal Code Committee, the Committee on Family, Children and Human Affairs, Joint House- Senate Rules Committee, the Military Planning Council, the Criminal Law and Sentencing Policy Study Commission, he has Chaired the Probate Code Study Commission and the Code Revision and Technical Corrections and is presently the Chair of the Criminal Code Evaluation Commission. I first became acquainted with Representative Foley several years ago when we were working with the Council for State Governments on Criminal Justice Reform. For the past several years POPAI has worked closely with Representative Foley with the many pieces of legislation that effects probation. During the last session, Representative Foley worked tirelessly to find funding to assist probation department across the State implement Evidence Based Practice and fund treatment programs. Despite not finding the funding, Representative Foley found a way to get legislation passed to assist probation with Administrative sanctions (coming soon). It is with sadness to say the Representative Foley will soon be leaving the House after his distinguished career and I can say probation will be losing a friend in the legislature. It does however give me great pride to award him the 2012 Founders Award from the Probation Officer Professional Association of Indiana.
