TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – A proposed bill would treat juveniles involved in human and sexual trafficking as victims not criminals.

The Indiana Attorney General’s office had 100 reported complaints of human trafficking come into their office in 2014.

In an effort to curtail these rising numbers, the new bill proposed that if police come in contact with a child that’s been forced into human or sex trafficking – they won’t be arrested, but the Department of Child Services will be notified.

WISH-TV News sister station WLFI News reported that much of the time, juveniles victimized in trafficking are runaways or are in the country illegally.
