POPAI Board Meeting Minutes for 05/16/2017

11:56am. Meeting held at Convention Center, Indianapolis, at Probation Officers Annual Training. Dustin DeLong, Chief of Howard County Probation and members of the Probation Officer Advisory Board was present at the POPAI meeting.

Secretary's Report April's report: Cherie moves to accept, Sarah seconds, all voted and motion carried.

Treasurer's Report Christine reported as of 4/30/17, balance in checking is $71,382.82 and the balance in savings is $17,040.23.  Susan B. moves to accept the treasurer's report, Bob seconds.  All voted/motion carried.

Membership Susan R. reported the final notice will be sent to all departments this month for dues owed.  No new corporate memberships.  Susan R. reported she needs to check the PO Box and will do so for any pending membership checks as well.

Education Susan R. reported feedback was good on the management institute, in particular at location.  Dates are open for 2018 at the same location and all voted that Susan R. will proceed on securing the location for the following:  4/11/18-New Chief's training, 4/12/18-4/13/18-Management Institute. Susan R. also reported SCRAM sponsored the key note speaker cost for the POPAI conference, with Doug Marlowe.  She has confirmed this speaker.

Chief's Executive Committee Greg reported no activity.

Juvenile Delinquency Alternative Initiative (JDAI) Update Kory reported the State sent out new data and he will send out to the board.  Sarah Lochner will take his place on the PO Advisory Board for JDAI representation. Kory reported the National JDAI conference was held and Indiana had terrific representation. Kory reported the State team has scheduled quarterly JDAI meetings, which he will continue to attend and report back on. Related Documents:

   

Probation Officer Advisory Board Update Stacey reported they haven't met since the beginning of April.

Election Adam reported intent to run for 2017 POPAI Board is posted on the POPAI website now and due 7/7/17. Discussion held about online process for all future elections.  Adam to talk to Karen about possibilities. VP vacancy ballot voting held. Linda and CJ excused themselves from this discussion and vote. There were two qualified applicants for POPAI Vice-president.  Discussion held.  Board vote. Results=Troy Hatfield will be VP through September, 2017 when elections are held.

Awards and Recognition CJ reported 3 applications were received for the Knepple Scholarship. Winner Rachael Scott was awarded at today's PO Annual Meeting.

Indiana Evidence Based Decision Making (EBDM) Initiative Linda reported that a 4-day Pretrial Executives training has been scheduled for August 14-17  and all Indiana Pretrial pilot counties will be sending teams of 5 to this NIC-sponsored training.  

Justice Reinvestment Advisory Council (JRAC) Linda reported JRAC meeting was cancelled for this week.

Legislation Linda reported no update-Karen sent out the 2017 final report for all previously. Pretrial release effective date for Indiana extended to 1/1/2020 in order for the Indiana Supreme Court to establish rules pursuant to HEA 1137.

Technology Karen sent this out previously-employment continues to be the most visited portion of the POPAI website.

Old Business none

New Business Adam passed around phone tree and all information was confirmed with board members. Adam reported CJ has been picked to represent POPAI at APPA in New York City.
