Educational Opportunities

2010 POPAI Fall Conference

The 2010 POPAI Fall Conference will be returning to the French Lick Resort in French Lick, Indiana, The recently renovated hotel and conference facility provides the perfect setting for probation professionals to improve themselves in a variety of ways, from the task specific, to the physical being, to the emotional self. This conference is for anyone in the field of probation and probation services. The goal of the conference is to provide another opportunity to assist you in obtaining the required 12 hours of annual continuing education required for Probation Officers in the State of Indiana. Attendance at all sessions will provide 9 hours of continuing education credit. Attendees will be given the opportunity to gain probation specific knowledge on techniques, services and technology of the future being utilized in Indiana today. Opportunities will also be available for attendees to retreat, share ideas, participate in some outdoor activities and to enjoy an excellent training and networking environment.

Individual Memberships

POPAI MEMBERSHIP TYPES

Active Membership: Active membership shall be limited to persons currently employed as Probation Officers in the State of Indiana.

Associate Membership: Associate membership shall be limited to individuals who are certified as Probation Officers who formerly worked in the field of Probation for a minimum of three (3) years, and are now working in a related correctional service in the State of Indiana.

Emeritus Membership: Emeritus membership shall be limited to former active members who served as Probation Officers in the State of Indiana for a minimum of ten (10) years, and have now retired from the field.

Honorary Membership: Honorary membership shall be awarded to certain individuals who have made a significant contribution to the field of Probation in the State of Indiana, following review and selection by a nominating committee.

Life Membership: Life membership shall be awarded to former active members, who have been members for a period of twenty (20) years. Former active members wishing to apply for a Life Membership must contact his/her District Representative who will bring the application request to the Executive Board. The Executive Board will verify qualifications and award Life Membership to qualified applicants.

Contributing Membership: Contributing membership shall be awarded/limited to corporations, foundations, or individuals who wish to contribute to POPAI.

Intern Membership: Intern membership shall be limited to individuals working as interns in Probation Departments in the State of Indiana.

Support Staff Membership: Support staff membership shall be limited to individuals directly involved in the delivery of Probation services (i.e., secretarial staff, administrative assistants and any other administrative staff) as approved by the Executive Board if in question.

Student Membership: Student membership shall be limited to individuals enrolled in a college or university with an interest in criminal justice or a related field.


Membership Year: The membership year shall run from the date of receipt of the POPAI membership application and upon payment of annual dues. Any individual can petition to the Executive Board to change the status of membership, if he/she can show cause why such status change is needed (i.e., due to change of employment or job description).

Voting Privileges: Each active, emeritus and life member shall be entitled to one (1) vote.


POPAI Dues: Annual dues shall be set from time to time by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the Executive Board. All membership levels except Honorary Membership and Life Membership are subject to the payment of annual dues. Probation Departments that pay the membership dues for their Probation Officers can submit a written notice to the Membership Coordinator to request that a membership be transferred to a new Probation Officer who is replacing a previous or former Probation Officer for whom dues have been paid. An individual who pays for his/her own membership to the Association retains that membership as long as he/she maintains employment as a Probation Officer in the State of Indiana.

POPAI MEMBERSHIP DUES PAYMENT OPTIONS

POPAI membership dues may be paid by check, money order, or government claim form.

To pay for your membership by check, money order or government claim form, download the Membership Application format to print. After completing the Membership Application, mail it to the POPAI Membership Coordinator at the address listed on the Membership Application form. Memberships are valid for one year.

  • Active ($25)- Working Indiana probation officers who are certified. (voting rights)
  • Emeritus ($20)- Retired probation officers who served at least 10 years. (voting rights)
  • Associate ($15)- Former probation officers (with at least 3 years service) who were certified and are now working in a related criminal justice field. (non-voting)
  • Student ($15) - For individuals who are currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program at any university or have recently graduated and are pursuing a career in probation. (non-voting)
  • Support Staff ($10)- Administrative staff who assist in the delivery of probation services. (non-voting)
  • Intern ($10)- Interns (students) working as probation officers. (non-voting)
  • Honorary Lifetime -(Executive Board initiated) - Persons no longer serving as Probation Officers, but who have been recognized as having made significant contributions to the advancement of the association. (voting rights)

Membership Application

Membership Services Coordinator

In an effort to improve services for our members, the Executive Board has enlisted the assistance of a Membership Services Coordinator. It is the responsibility of this person to ensure that members receive a prompt response to their application along with other membership related questions. The Membership Services Coordinator will also be responsible for recruitment and retainment efforts for the association.
